As per a press release from the Lokayukta police, the complainant had acquired 10.8 acres of land in Kudupu village and had been corresponding with the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to transfer the land for the expansion of the civic body’s solid waste treatment facility in Pachchanady. The land was officially registered in the MCC’s name in January 2024.

In February, MCC Commissioner C.L. Anand wrote to MUDA Commissioner Mr. Ali, requesting the issuance of a TDR certificate to the complainant. However, Mr. Ali had delayed action on the file.

On Saturday, Lokayukta police apprehended Salim while he was accepting ₹25 lakh under the instructions of Mr. Ali. Both Ali and Salim were arrested for violations punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act, stated the Lokayukta police.
