MSEZ violates high court order, continues work along river bank

Mangalore Today News Network

msez12may31 Mangalore, May 31, 2012: MSEZ has reportedly ignored the High Court’s order for status quo on its road and corridor project near Kuloor, issued two days back.

The Melukoppa Athrebail Nagarika Samithi complained that MSEZ continued work on its project in spite of the stay order issued by the court.

On Monday, the High Court of Karnataka issued an interim stay order, preventing MSEZ from carrying out construction work on the banks of the river near KISCO and KIOCL property.

DC Dr. Channappa Gowda said that he had directed MSEZ to stop work along the banks of River Phalguni, and Puttamadiah, ACP of Panambur, said that he had deployed a police team on the work site.

Natesh Ullal, member of the Karavali Karnataka Janaabhivriddhi Vedike, said that they will consult their lawyers and see if they can file a contempt of court case against MSEZ.

Accusing the police of failing to take action against the MSEZ, Arun D’Souza, a co-petitioner in the high court, said that MSEZ continued work on its project even after the court issued its order, adding that the police, instead of taking action against MSEZ, arrested those who protested against the company. He demanded to know what the police are doing even when MSEZ is clearly violating court orders.
