MSEZ tussle: Vidya Dinker and others released on bail

Mangalore, May 26: Vidya Dinker and others were released on bail from the jail on Saturday May 26, who were arrested on a false complaint registered by the DC against them for hindering him from carrying out his duty.

Vidya condemned the action by DC, Dr Channappa Gowda. She clarified that it was a false case made with intention of hoodwinking the public through the media and that no untoward action was made by agitators that disturbed him to do his work. They had approached him to clarify his inaction in the MSEZ dumping mud into the Phalguni river issue. She blamed that the DC was trying to escape from his duty.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It may be recalled that the police had arrested Vidya Dinaker, Godfrey D’Souza, Ashok Amin, Jacintha D’Souza, and Latha D’Souza and booked them under Sections 147, 148, 353, and 341 on May 21, Thursday.

The members of Kulur, Melukoppa, Athrebail Nagarika Horata Samiti have decided to file a petition in the high court of Karnataka on the violation of CRZ rules by the MSEZ in dumping mud into the Phalguni river for its corridor road,  on Monday May 28. Vidya said that MSEZ was dumping mud on the river bank for the road, instead of acquiring 17 acres of land from KISKO as they have to pay huge amount.

The samithi is engaged is an intense protest against the dumping of mud in River Phalguni by MSEZ workers constructing a road and pipeline corridor by the banks of the river. According to the members, dumping of mud in the river increases the risk of artificial flooding during monsoons.

Vidya alleged that the day they were arrested a police personnel manhandled her and other women too and there were no police women present.
