MRSA scare: Laxmi nursing college students granted 10-day leave

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 15, 2015:  Following Saturday’s protest by students of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing  after several students were infected by the drug-resistant  Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), the management has granted ten day holiday for the students many of whom have now decided to return to their native places.

MERS fears man...

Meanwhile, the college management has clarified that all the affected students were subject to tests and provided treatment and medicines.

The protest by the students had led to a lot of confusion mainly because initially it was wrongly construed that the students were affected by MERS. Later, there was a clarification that it was not MERS, but MRSA. Sources said nearly 40 students of B.Sc (Nursing) course were infected by MRSA.

Meanwhile, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao has stressed the need for sensitising public regarding MRSA. He said a meeting would be held today (Monday) to discuss the issue.
