Mangalore, Jan14, 2014: The Dakshina Kannada District committee of Statue of Unity project has called for collection drive for steel for the construction of 182 metres (597 ft) tall.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Jan 14, Tuesday, Dr Bharat Shetty convener of the project said that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel officially inaugurates the collection drive in the Dakshina Kannada district at Polali Rajarajeshwari temple premises on Jan 14.
He also said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust has set up 36 offices across the country to collect iron from over 500,000 Indian farmers.
The project will hold three-month-long nationwide campaign to collect over 5000 metric tonnes of iron from six lakh villages to build the statue.
