Mangaluru, July 12, 2017: MP from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Shobha Karandlaje in a move backing the demand by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singhregarding on the need to establish the office of National Investigating Agency (NIA) in Mangaluru.
In a letter dated July 11, she apprised the Union Home Minister of the current situation in Dakshina Kannada district stating the ongoing incidents in DK has resulted in the deaths of 23 activists belonging to RSS/ BJP/ Hindu outfits.
Terming the situation as akin to sitting on a powder keg, Shobha said if peace has to return to the district, the perpetrators of the heinous crimes need to be arrested and punished according to law, apart from identifying potential culprits and apprehending them before they indulge in violence.
For these two vital steps, the setting up of NIA is imperative, she said adding having an office here will help sleuths monitor the movement of suspected Jihadi elements not only in DK and surrounding aresa but also in Bhatkal of Uttara Kannada.
Shobha stated she has been made aware by police officials that the Jihadi elements influx to DK is from Kerala through Kasaragod and NIA could be handy in keeping a watch on these issues.

First let us think of controlling these riots and then think of setting up NIA. Don’t jump for everything first. Our District is communal sensitive these days. | |
