The memorandum has stressed the need to resume the services of the Mahalakshmi  Express the service  of which was cancelled  during the gauge conversion in 1995. This, the memorandum recalled was the only train that connected Mangaluru to different parts of North Karnataka including Hubballi, Dharwad and Belagavi.

If the train resumes services then it would benefit thousands  from North Karnataka region who come to Mangaluru seeking jobs, the memorandum said.
