Mangaluru, Sep 22, 2016: Addressing media on Sept 21, Wednesday, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik has urged the state government to stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu instead of pressing for the Prime Minister’s intervention in the issue.
He said that the state government is demanding the Prime Minister’s intervention in spite of knowing that the Prime Minister cannot do so, given the verdict of the Supreme Court. "Instead, the chief minister should take a firm step to stop releasing water in the interest of the people of Karnataka," demanded the legislator.
Karnik, meanwhile, opined that the state government has not sought public opinion before putting its argument before the court. Due to shortage of water in the Krishna Raja Sagara dam, Bengaluru city is likely to face deep crisis of water in the days to come, he pointed out.
Responding to a query regarding a demand by a senior Congress leader that the elected representatives from Karnataka tender their resignations on the wake of the Cauvery issue, Karnik said that it was the opinion purely of the leader and he does not subscribe to the opinion.
