Mangaluru, Mar 18, 2017: Ivan D’Souza, MLC and Chief Whip of State Legislative Council has said that he would pressurise the chief minister to provide additional grant for the Paschima Vahini Project aimed at solving the drinking water problem of Dakshina Kannada district. A sum of Rs 100 crore has been allocated in the budget of the current year for this project.
Speaking to reporters here, Ivan said though the project aims at constructing vented dams across west flowing rivers, so far no clear-cut report has been prepared regarding the project.
Stating that the project which is still in proposal stage would require around Rs 2000 crores, he added that he would pressurise the authorities to prepare a report within the next five months.
Stressing the need to form an areca growers board to protect the interests of areca growers, he said the Board should also help in promoting by-products of areca.
B H Khader, Chairman of Cashew Development Corporation, Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim President of District Congress and others were present.
