Manipal: August 15, 2015: Raghunath Manohar, Deputy engineer in the advanced material testing laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal University received a US Patent for his invention, "Marking Gauge".
He is a single inventor of the device which is a flexible marking tool for single and multiple parallel lines and vice versa, with variable depth of the scribing pins to suit the hardness of the material being marked.
Way back in 1991 when he joined the workshop in MIT, he was not satisfied with the functioning of the marking gauges then. "I decided to come up with another which could perform better and was more useful in its application. It took me some time to work on it, and only five years ago I achieved a breakthrough," Manohar said. He added; "I immediately applied for a patent to the US and in just four and half years I was awarded the patent (US 9085079 B2).
"I am grateful for the support I received from Manipal University, MIT and head of mechanical department, Dr Divakar Shetty," Manohar said.
