MCC to develop major junctions and roads in city

Mangalore, Oct 25, 2014:  The Mangalore City Corporation has decided to utilise its premium floor area ratio (FAR) fund to develop major traffic junctions in the city.

The junctions that witnesses highest density of traffic in the heart of the city will be developed first to ease traffic congestion.

The development cell of the City Corporation has decided to develop five junctions in the city in the first phase. They are Hampankatte Junction road widening and development (Rs 70 lakh), Mallikatte Junction road (Rs 99.75 lakh), PVS Junction Road (Rs 76 lakh), Bunts Hostel Junction Road (Rs 60 lakh), Ambedkar (Jyothi Junction) (Rs 80 lakh). The work will be taken up in association with the Mangalore traffic police.

The premium FAR collected by the town planning section from buildings on roads leading to these junctions will be utilised for developing the junctions, said Mayor Mahabala Marla. He said that developing these circles play a vital role in smooth flow of traffic.

In the second phase, Rs 98.37 crore will be utilised for the development of 13 more junctions in the city. They are Circuit House Junction (Rs 80 lakh), Kavoor Junction (Rs 99.75 lakh), Clock Tower Junction (Rs 20 l akh), Rao and Rao Junction (Rs 75 lakh), Lower Bendoor Junction (Rs 99.75 lakh), Navabharath Junction (Rs 75 lakh), Kankanady Junction (Rs 99.75 lakh), Karavali Junction (Rs 60 lakh), Karangalpady Junction (Rs 82 lakh), Bondel Junction (Rs 99.75 lakh), Nandigudde Junction (Rs 99.75 lakh), City Hospital Junction (Rs 13 lakh) and Avery Junction (Rs 80 lakh).

The MCC has also planned to develop 21 major roads in its jurisdiction.

The roads to be developed are —Kavoor Junction to Kavoor Mahalingeshwara temple, Mary Hill Junction to Bondel Junction along with construction of rain water drains and footpath, Yeyyadi till concrete road Shaktinagara (near Mahaveera garage), DerebailKonchadi to Mullakadu, Kuntikana fire station to BarebailYeyyadi, Urwastore to Ashok Nagara Urwa Market, Kadri Park road to National Highway Juncyion (Circuit House to Padavu High School), Padavu High School to Sharbath Katte road, Kalpane Kulashekar to Shakthinagara road, Maroli Sooryanarayana temple road, City Hospital Junction to Pinto’s lane (through Kadri Kambala), Bunts hostel to PVS Junction, six laning of road from KSRTC to Lalbagh, Navabharath Circle to Besant School (via Sharada Vidyalaya), New Balmatta road (Jyothi to Avery Junction), Milagres Junction to Railway Station road, Sturrock road (Avery Junction to Anand Shetty Circle at Attavar), Nandigudde to Railway Station ,SL Mathias Road ( Casagranda Highland Junction), and road leading to Kankanady railway station (near Naguri).

Mayor said that the busy stretch between KSRTC Junction and Lalbagh will be developed into six-lane road. The MCC will try to convince the land owners to sacrifice their land /buildings under the provisions of transferable development rights (TDR) for widening the road.  Plans are in the air and it is hoped they will materialize soon and free the common man from many difficulties.
