Mangaluru, Sep 27, 2015: The MCC - Mangaluru City Corporation seems to be in deep slumber as it has failed to attend to bad roads in many parts of the city. But it’s indifference to the road infrastructure between Morgan’s gate and Jeppinamogaru, through which one of the major thoroughfares towards Kerala passes is ridiculous.
The road between Morgan’s Gate and Netravathi Cabin via Mahakalipadpu has been in a pathetic condition for years. Whenever public anger peaks the civic body undertook cosmetic filling of potholes. As a result, this thoroughfare between south Mangaluru and National Highway 66 towards Kerala is strangely bad. Every day hundreds of goods vehicles transporting vegetables and fish from the Mangaluru Central Market and Bunder make use of this road regularly..
Tulunada Sene founder president told media that the Corporation is least bothered to address the woes of residents and road users in Mangaluru. It is indifferent towards sharing the cost of Railway over Bridge (RoB) on the Mangaluru Central Station-Kannur line and has not been undertaking proper maintenance of the road. Though area MLA J.R. Lobo regularly travels through the locality, it is surprising that the pathetic condition of the road has not got it’s due attention.
A resident of the area, said that the locality does not appear to be part of Mangaluru City Corporation as the infrastructure is absent. A driver of a school van using the route every day, said negotiating the about 600 m stretch has been difficult. It is natural for the vehicle to get damaged, but the condition of kids travelling in the van is worrisome .
Tulunada Sene has decided to hold a day-long dharna at Mahakalipadpu demanding the immediate intervention of MCC authorities to the road conditions of the locality on September 30.
