MCC for Rs. 500 cr. loan for drainage, water supply works - Minister Sorake

Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2015 :  Addressing a gathering on Nov 21,  Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister  Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister.  Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister said that MCC - City Corporation is to get  a loan of Rs. 500 crore for taking up water supply and underground sewage projects before the end of this financial year. The total loan, Rs. 280 crore would be taken from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the balance amount from the German government.


sorake It would be used for laying underground sewage lines in areas which did not have the facility; replacing old sewage lines in old Mangaluru; and laying water supply lines in areas not covered under an Asian Development Bank-funded Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (KUDCEMP) taken up a decade ago. The corporation had taken up both underground sewage and water supply projects under the scheme.

The Minister said that about five per cent works on the completion of sewage lines under KUDCEMP were pending. The Urban Development Department would pump in funds required for completing it.

The Minister said that the State Cabinet had agreed to sanction Rs. 200 crore to the MCC under the Union government’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). This fund would be used for developing infrastructure other than the purpose for which the fund would be released.

The Minister said that the government was also thinking of drawing water from the Lakya dam in Kudremukh for supplying water to industries in the city.  There are plans to construct market buildings at Kankanady, Kadir and re-build the central market.

Now-a -days crores of rupees are sanctioned from the Government towards the development. But the problems faced by the public is endless. They earn a good profit from these projects but the work taken up is always incomplete
