M’lore origin Nun, Kerala priest get awards on Teacher’s Day

Mangaluru, Sep 08, 2015: A Catholic nun of Mangaluru origin  and a priest were among 34 teachers from India and abroad who were honored,  for their service to education by the government of India for Teacher’s Day in India.

Hailing from Mangaluru, Franciscan Clarist Missionary of the Most Blessed ‎Sacrament‎ (CFMSS) Sister Zita Cutinha, principal of Our Lady Fatima Convent Secondary School (OLF), Gurgaon, Haryana and Carmelite of Mary Immaculate priest Fr. Mathew Thengumpally, Principal of Christ Central School, Kerala were among the awardees.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) awarded the teachers and principals in schools affiliated. The Teacher’s Award for 2014 recognized the valuable and commendable services of the teachers for the cause of education.   They received the award from Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, during a function held in New Delhi.

Sr. Cutinha, who hails from Mangalore, thanked the CBSE for acknowledging her service and said that the award is a challenge for her to go on working tirelessly for the nation building by imparting value based education to the needy and the poor.

Sr. Cutinha is involved in the field of education for more than 25 years. She has been the Principal of Nirmala Convent School, Bulandshahar, U.P., St. Anthony Convent School, Faridabad, Haryana and Vice-Principal of St. Joseph’s Convent School, Pathankot, Punjab. The former Provincial of CFMSS of Delhi, Sr. Cutinha is currently the Vice Provincial.

The minister felicitated the teachers and mentors for their contribution in the field of ‎education as an acknowledgement of the role and impact of the teachers in shaping the future ‎generations. Irani congratulated all the awardees ‎and said that their contribution in nation building and liberating generations is unparalleled.
