Loopholes in Panchayatraj system must be plugged, say experts

Mangaluru, March 2,2017 :Senior Congress leader and former chairman of State Legislative Council B L Shanker has stressed the need to conduct an introspection on decentralisation of power.

Addressing a workshop for Panchayat representatives held at the Congress office on March 1, Wednesday under the aegis of DK District Congress Committee and Rajeev Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane, he said Panchayatraj System was one of the greatest contributions of the Congress.

The Panchayatraj system would be meaningful when every programme at the village level is held with the co-operation of the Panchayat, he added.

V R Sudarshan, another former Legislative Council chairman stressed the need to set right the loopholes in the existing Panchayatraj system.

Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim President of DK District Congress presided over the function. K Suresh Ballal, MUDA Chairman, Padmanabha Naringana, President of the SC cell of District Congress, Lokesh Hegde, President of Labour cell and others were present.
