Lokayukta order cancelles 8 KSRTC buses in Udupi

Udupi, June 23 2018: At least 8 KSRTC buses - six plying in and around Kundapur and Byndoor and two on Udupi-Hebri route - have been cancelled following an order from the Lokayukta, according to KSRTC deputy commissioner Deepak Kumar.

Kumar told media that initially, the private bus operators approached the High Court against 45 permits and the High Court reverted the matter to the district administration, with a direction to issue permits if the documents were legal and genuine. Accordingly, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) granted 45 permits.

Deepak Kumar said that there were these eight permits which the private bus owner association challenged in the State Transport Authority (STA). STA referred the issue to the district administration in January, which came to be sent to the STA again. No decision could be taken by the STA as the elections were announced.

The private bus operators again the Lokayukta over the issue. After recording the statements, the Lokayukta issued an order at the end of May directing the RTA to stop such buses the permits of which were with it. The buses operated until all the exams were over as the students were given passes. Later as per the order by Lokayukta, the eight buses remain cancelled, he added. Public convenience is not vital it seems.
