Bhatkal, Dec 23, 2013: Over one thousand bottles of liquor worth Rs 51,840 which was being unauthorisedly transported in the Matsyagandha express was seized by the officials of the Excise Department and Railway Protection Force near Honnavar on December 21, Saturday.
The Indian made liquor was found in bottles of 200 ml capacity each. There were a total of 1296 bottles. However, the officials could not make any arrest as the person who was transporting the liquor had escaped.
It is learnt the bottles were loaded into the train at Margoa railway station in Goa and were being taken to Mangalore. They were found in a large bag near the door.
The TTC of the Matsyagandha had tipped off the Excise and RPF officials about the liquor smuggling.
