Mangaluru, Sep 11,2017 : The delay in the investigation into the suspicious death of Alva’s student Kavya has invited the ire of several like-minded organisations and individuals who staged a protest in front of the DC office here on September 11, Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, rationalist Prof. Narendra Nayak said organisations which had staged a protest soon after Kavya death seeking investigation, are now wanting to know the progress of the investigation.
Speaking at the protest in front of DCs office demanding action into ’suicide’ of a 14 year old child Kavya Poojari, Prof. Nayak said that like the blue whale challenge on the internet claiming lives of children there has been an education shark challenge going on since years in Dakshina Kannada in which without the benefit of high tech or internet and lives of girls are being snuffed out.
It may be recalled that Kavya Poojary committed ’suicide’ in her room at the hostel of Alva’s educational institutions Moodubidri. It has been informed under an RTI query that this was the 16th death in these institutions in the last decade. Her mother Baby Poojari who spoke at the meeting( in the photo) was inconsolable. She said how she was treated by the police who wanted to hush up the issue.
A high-level investigation has been sought by activists into the the unnatural death of Kavya Poojary, a class 10 student of Alva’s High School in Moodbidri on July 20.
They came under the banner Samana Manaska Sanghatanegala Vedike and sat on dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday.
KS Vimala, State President of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane alleged that the FIR copy has not yet been given to Kavya family by the police. She also wanted to know the reason for the silence of political leaders in the case.
She questioned why BJP leaders like Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje, MPs, were not speaking on the matter.
Ms. Vimala said that the Deputy Commissioner had constituted five committees to verify the lapses, if any, in the education institutes managed by the Alva Education Foundation as pointed out by V.S. Ugrappa, chairman of the committee. Now, the Deputy Commissioner should make the findings of the committee public.
She alleged that the coastal districts of the State have become laboratories of communal forces for their experiments. Some private education institutes supported such forces. Some government officials were supporting the malpractices of private education institutes.
The BJP leaders were supporting communal forces, she alleged.
District President of CITU Sunil Kumar Bajal demanded constitution of Special Investigation Team to probe the case.
NFIW chairperson Bharathi, former mayor Ashraf, DYFI, SFI leaders, Kavya’s parents and many others were present.
