Puttur, Nov 24 2016: Reports state that a seven-year-old leopard was caught in a trap laid for a wild boar at Malathodi in Kolthige village of Puttur taluk on Nov 22, Tuesday late night.
The leopard was rescued by a team comprising forest department officials and personnel from K Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama on Wednesday. Later, it was released into the forest at Bisile Ghat. Unidentified persons had laid snare to catch wild boar near an arecanut plantation owned by one Kedilaya.
When Kedilaya went to his plantation to water the plants, his pet dog started barking. Noticing the leopard, Kedilaya alerted the Forest department officials.
As the news began to spread, a large number of people gatherered at the spot. Puttur ACF Sundar Shetty, RFO Kariappa and Panja RFO Praveen Shetty visited the spot. Experts tranquilised the leopard and shifted it to a cage. The forest department officials said they were yet to find out who laid the snare.
