Mangalore, Jan 1, 2013: B Ramanatha Rai, DK District in-charge Minister and State minister for Forest and Ecology has expressed the fears that the land acquisition process for the proposed second vented dam at Thumbay may be delayed in turn hampering the construction of the dam.
Participating in a review meet at the Mangalore City Corporation Hall on December 31, Tuesday, the Minister at the same time suggested the authorities concerned to find alternate ways to enhance the storage capacity of the dam.
The Minister said once the Land Acquisition Act is enforced with effect from January 1, it may be difficult to acquire more land for the purpose. The dam can now store water upto only four meters though it has been proposed to store water upto seven meters. However, that would mean acquisition of more land which seems to be impossible now.
Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer in-charge of the vented dam project, said the civil works of the second dam would end by May this year.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, MLA J R Lobo and other officials were present.
