Mangaluru, Mar 11, 2019: With Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in Dakshina Kannada district on April 18 as per the poll dates announced by the Election Commission, the authorities will keep  a strict eye on the social media too as far as campaigning of the candidates is concerned. Even campaigns done  personally on behalf of the candidates will be watched, said Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

Addressing a press meet at his office on March 11, Monday he said the  conditions and rules applicable to candidates  will also be applicable to  campaign through social sites. The candidates themselves will be held responsible for any campaign done on their behalf on social media. Therefore campaigning for a candidate without his prior permission will also be an offence under  the model code of conduct, the Deputy Commissioner said.

A candidate is permitted to spend Rs 70 lakhs towards campaign, he said adding any news in violation of poll code will invite stern  action. A team led by ZP CEO will keep an eye on the news reports, he added.

A total of 46 booths in the district are  in Naxal affected areas and  Para Military personnel will be posted here to ensure peaceful polls, informed SP Laxmi Prasad. There are a total of 9,621 licensed arms holders in the district  and they have to deposit them in the nearest station or with their vendor with permission from the Deputy Commissioner. He said the Department would voluntary take action against disruptive elements.

City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said a total of 100  persons  will be extradited  as a precautionary measure against disruptive acts. Preventive case have  been booked against over 500 persons,  inspection at check posts have been  tightened, he informed.
