Kundapur, June 13, 2013 : The mystery behind the suspicious missing of a married woman of Maiteri in Golihole gram panchayat limits, since April 24, has been solved with the arrest of the accused on June 11, Tuesday. The skeletal remains of the woman was also found in the reserve forest area at Jadkal Nayakawady on June 12, Wednesday after the arrested man showed the spot where he murdered the woman.
Tunga alias Prema (32), wife of Vittal Poojari, who is an Asha worker and Agrigold agent, had left home on April 24 after informing her daughter Sowjanya that she had to get some insurance policy done. However, she had gone missing mysteriously after that. The Police who were investigating the case, arrested one Anand Marathi when the truth came to light.
The place where the skeletal remains were found were on the banks of Sowparnika river and it is learnt Anand Marathi had come to the place after crossing the river.
If rumours are doing the rounds that a property dispute between Tunga and her sisters which was in the court was responsible for the murder, police have ruled out the possibility and say this was a murder for gain.
According to Sowjanya, daughter of the deceased woman, who is studying in tenth standard, Anand Marathi used to repeatedly telephone his mother and used to cut the line whenever she received the phone. She also recalls her mother as stating that Anand Marathi used to say that she must get the insurance policy of two women done.
It is learnt, she was wearing kariyamani chain weighing three sovereigns, ear studs weighing one and a half sovereigns and a finger ring of half sovereign when she had left home.
It is learnt, Anand Marathi who summoned Prema on the pretext of an insurance policy, had thrown chilly powder on her eyes and had killed her after hitting her head with a hammer. He had then escaped with her jewellery.
Senior police officials including DySP Yashoda visited the spot and investigations are underway.
