Kundapur, July 31, 2015: A man who posed himself as an RTI activist and cheated several people with fake promises of providing visa and lucrative jobs, is now in the police net.
The accused identified as Surendra Karkera has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Following his arrest, many people who have been cheated by him are approaching the police to lodge complaints. The suspicion is that he might have defrauded many to the tune of over Rs 50 lakhs.
What is been gathered is that Surendra, as an RTI activist had lodged complaints against many government employees and had ensured several raids. This had earned him a good image which he tried to encash through fake promises.
One of the complainants claimed that he had given Rs 2 lakhs to Surendra who when asked to return it, challenged him to produce proof about the payment.
Further investigations are underway.
