Kundapur, Feb 19, 2014: A house at Hemmady near here was partially gutted in a fire mishap on February 18, Tuesday night. It is suspected that a spark that lit the firewood stocked in the kitchen of the house, resulted in the mishap. Several valuables and household articles were destroyed in the fire.
The house belonged to Vasanthi and Amith couple. If Vasanthi was a fish seller, her daughter worked in a shop in Kundapur. Divya who had returned home in the evening had lit the stove and placed kerosene lamp nearby. Fire was noticed just as she went out of the kitchen. Locals who rushed were however afraid to douse the fire fearing the kerosene stove may explode. They informed the fire service personnel who rushed to the spot and put out the fire.
The family said clothes, gold and silver and various other things costing nearly Rs 2 lakh have been lost in the fire.
