Kundapur, Feb 05, 2016: A court in Kundapur has acquitted Satish Kharvi (30) of Gangolli of the charges of murdering his sister-in-law at Varaha Beach in Maravanthe in 2013.
He was facing charges of killing Mangala Kharvi, the wife of his elder brother by smothering her using her saree on September 19, 2013. He was even charged with destroying evidence by dumping the body in the sea. Sources said Satish had an illicit affair with Mangala and that both had a quarrel after Mangala came to know that Satish planned to marry another girl.
On realising that Mangala would not allow her to marry, he had chosen to eliminate her. With an evil intention in mind he had taken Mangala to the Maravnthe beach that evening and taking advantage of darkness, had strangulated her and later dumped the body in the sea. The body was later traced and the accused was arrested based on the phone calls.
The court has now absolved him on the grounds that the charges against him could not be proved.
