Kumble : Cops trap drug smuggler after hot chase ; seize 55 kg ganja

Kasargod, May 5, 2014: The Kumble Police who acted on a tip off received by the Narcotics Cell arrested a drug smuggler after a hot chase at Mogral Puttur Kunil. However, another drug peddler managed to escape.

Police seized nearly 55 kg of ganja from the arrested apart from a cash of Rs 10,000, a Swift car and some documents.

The arrested man is James Joseph of Idukki Rajkad while the man who escaped is Rojas from Kallikote.

Kumble police had initially tried to stop the vehicle at Shiriya but of no avail. Immediately, the Kasargod Control Room was informed and police had blocked the road near the NH Chowki. But the Swift car took a turn and headed towards Mangalore when the police gave it a hot chase. But the time the vehicle reached Mogral Puttur Kanil, the Highway Squad police had reached the spot.

On realising that they were surrounded, the two in the car drove the vehicle towards the railway track when it toppled. Police who rushed to the spot arrested James Joseph, while Rojas escaped.

The operation followed a tip off to KA Suresh Babu, DySP of Narcotics Cell.
