Puttur, March 8: Around 190 pairs of buffaloes, specially trained for the festivities, took active part in the Koti-Chennaya Kambala, a gorgeous buffalo race of Dakshina Kannada district, at Devaramaru Gadde, Puttur on March 7.

The race of buffaloes has been conducting under the leadership of Muttappa Rai, since 18 years ago. The traditional rituals were performed to begin the race.

The Kambala saw a grand opening lustily cheered by an enthusiastic crowd. The traditional race of Tulu region was run in the true spirit of competition potentially guided by its owners. The race continued till late wee hours of Monday.

The award distribution function for the owners of winning buffaloes will be held at the end of the race on Monday evening.
