Konkani Natak Sabha Jubilee drama ’Priceless pearl of Cascia’ on today, Nov 11

Mangaluru, Nov 11, 2018: As part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebration Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) A much awaited Konkani musical play at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore; entitled "Moladik Mothi"  ’Priceless Pearl’ - the story of St.Rita of Cascia is to be staged at 5.30 pm sharp. The Emeritus Bishop of Mangalore Rev.Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza will preside.

The play is penned by well known Lawrence D’Souza Cascia, and directed by legendary Arthur Rasqunha Prabhu. The drama participation is mainly by actors from The KNS Cascia section. Cascia in Mangalore got it’s name due to the St.Rita Parish and church set up about 80 years ago and fervent devotion to this saint of the Impossible is very popular. Cascia high school here too is a reputed school of Mangalore. Year 2018, is marked as the 450th year from 1568, that the church arrived permanently in Mangalore. 

Konkani Natak Sabha - KNS (1943-2018):
Now 75 years old, has been a  dynamic cultural and entertainment beacon for Konkani progress and support of it’s people. Since last one year the KNS has organised many events to mark the great Jubilee. "Natak Dwarin Dharmik Sadan” (Drama as a means of goodness),  is the revered call of ‘Konkani Natak Sabah’ (KNS).   Capuchin Friars of St.Ann’s Friary were from earliest times leaders who directed this unique ‘Konkani Sabha’. KNS was formally established Sept 19, 1943...it launched Konkani from a rusted dialect to an evolving live language.  It is noteworthy that the land mark pioneer venue that is ‘Don Bosco Hall’  still visible today in it’s original form,  was opened on Aug 19, 1951.

 Marking Independence from British on August 16, 1947 – following the grand occasion of India’s Independence on Aug 15th,   the KNS  led a variety entertainment at St.Aloysius campus  with many prominent citizens and well wishers; even today this day is marked annually.  This very KNS, it can be claimed, is the platform that provided Konkani it’s premier place in the Mangalore Diocese and community.
