Kasargod, Nov 2, 2015: Brisk polling is underway in seven districts of Kerala including Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode,Idukki and Kollam where elections are being held on November 2, Monday for the local bodies including Gram Panchayats, Block Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats.
In Kasargod district, elections to 38 gram panchayats are held today and a total of 1,977 candidates including 1,031 women are in the fray. As many as 60 candidates are contesting for the 17 Zilla Panchayat seats, while 260 candidates including 133 women are contesting the Block Panchayat elections. Elections are also being held for three Municipal bodies and 354 candidates including 180 women are in the fray.
Security has been tightened in the district and apart from 3030 police personnel, Anti-Naxal force and additional police force from other districts of Kerala as well as Karnataka have been deployed to ensure smooth elections.
