Kasargod endosulfan victims to get more ambulance

Kasaragod, June 23, 2014:  Speaking at Endosulfan rehabilitation cell meeting here on June 21, Kerala Minister for Agriculture K P Mohan said, "Streamlining health care facilities for Endosulfan victims in Kasargod disrict, 11 new ambulances will be pressed into services within two months,  funds will also be released for the purchase of medicines for these  victims.

The Minister promised to sort out problems pertaining to BUDS special school for the differently-abled Endosulfan victims by taking up the matter with the Social Welfare Minister on June 26. There are complaints of poor facilities at BUDS school. The problems will be sorted out shortly. So far, four BUDS schools have been opened in Kasargod district. Seven more such schools will be opened shortly. Steps will be taken to hand over 37 buildings meant for schools, anganwadis and hospitals constructed as part of the Endosulfan packages to respective local bodies. The Minister said that Endosulfan rehabilitation panchayat level cell should convene meeting twice a month. The issue of rehabilitation of Endosulfan victims have been taken seriously by the government.

It has been decided to provide National Human Rights Commission recommended assistance to 2,239 out of the total 5,227 victims identified through medical camps. The government has sanctioned Rs.36.40 crore for the Endosulfan victims so far. The deadline of Dr Aravindan committee constituted for the welfare of Endosulfan victims has been extended. The Kerala State government will also take a decision on the recommendations of Justice Ramachandran Committee shortly. A Gujarat based firm has been contacted for destroying the stored Endosulfan in the district, he added.
