Kasargod, July 22, 2016 : In a shocking case reported from Talangere, a group backed by sand mafia men reportedly made an attempt on the lives of two policemen when a police team raided an illegal sand extraction unit on July 21, Thursday.
The injured cops namely V K Ranjith (34) and Rathish Chandran (37) of coastal police station in the town have been hospitalised.
Earlier, acting on a tip off, the police had raided the spot and found nearly 20 persons involved in sand extraction and loading sand into as many as five boats. Sources said the gang attacked the cops and pushed them into the river when the latter tried to seize the boats.
Additional police forces which were rushed to the spot rescued the two cops and shifted them to the hospital.
Police have registered cases against 20 persons in connection with the incident.
