Kasargod, May 24,2017 : Functioning of the Kasargod DC office as well as various offices at the District Collectorate here came to standstill on May 23, Tuesday after pro-Kannada organisations under the aegis of the Kannada Horata Samithi blocked roads near the Collectorate to oppose the Kerala government order making study of Malayalam subject compulsory in all schools in the state.
A large number of protestors gathered at the venue to express their opposition to the government directive. The protest was inaugurated by Fr Vincent D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bela Church, Sri Yogananda Saraswathi Swamiji of Kondevoor and Maulana Abdul Azeez of Manjeshwar.
The speakers on the occasion declared that they will not allow any attempt by the government to neglect Kannada language.
K Muralidhar Balkuraya, President of Karnataka Horata Samithi, Fr Victor D’Souza, Parish Priest of Kayyar Church, Kannada activist Adoor Umesh Naik, Kasargod District BJP Chief K Srikanth and many others took part in the protest.
The Samithi has already declared that the protest would continue until the Government decides to revoke its order.
