Kasargod, Dec 11, 2015 : The death of a Kabaddi player which was earlier thought to be a case of heart attack, has now turned out to be a case of murder. Police have already confirmed that Santosh (37) who was found dead at his house on December 8, was murdered.
The accused identified as Manoj (38), a resident of Karyangodu Chettikana has been arrested.Manoj was the cousin of Santosh and an illicit relationship which Manoj had with the wife of Santosh is learnt to be the cause of the murder. The accused Manoj was a divorcee.
Sources said Santosh had recently attacked his mother in a drunken stupor following which the woman was hospitalised. Even Santosh’s wife had stayed back with her mother-in-law at the hospital.
A day after this incident, Manoj who decided to take advantage of the situation wherein Santosh was alone at home, entered the latter’s house soon after a friend of Santosh left. Seeing Santosh lying in an inebriated state on the floor, he strangulated him with a rope and then fled the place along with the rope.
The body of Santosh was noticed by neighbours the next day and everyone had suspected that he died of heart failure. Even the accused Manoj pretended innocence and had taken part in Santosh’s last rites.
It was only after a post-mortem that it came to light that Santosh had died of strangulation. After questioning many people, police finally arrested Manoj.
