Mangalore, July 29, 2013 : State Minister for Higher Education and Tourism RV Deshpande has said that a Karwar-Mangalore Coastal Circuit Project with a view to promote tourism in the coastal belt of the state, has been proposed. He said the proposal would be put forth before the Union Tourism Department.
The State Minister was speaking during his visit to the District Congress Office on July 28, Sunday. He said if the project was approved, then several basic infrastructural facilities would be developed along the coast from Karwar to Mangalore to boost coastal tourism. This would not only generate revenue but also employment opportunities, he said.
He said the Deputy Commissioners of DK, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have already been instructed to prepare a comprehensive report after holding talks with elected representatives, stake holders, CRZ officials and after identifying tourism development spots. The report would be forwarded to the Union Tourism Minister, he informed.
The minister also stated that the government has taken steps to pay the salary arrears accounting to Rs 58 crores to guest lecturers. The first installment of Rs 22 crores has been released and the balance amount would be released after the budget session, he informed.
KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza sought upgradation of NITK into an IIT and also to upgrade Mangalore University College.
