Mangaluru Sep 27, 2016: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a demonstration outside DC office on  September 27, Tuesday to protest against the sand scarcity and the resulting skyrocketing of its price. Addressing the protestors, Civil Contractors Association President Purushottam Kottary said that the several  rules and regulations  which have been  imposed to avail sand has  dragged the workers into critical condition. There are lots of workers who are dependent on sand business and biased rules have left workers distressed, he added.

Dakshina Kannada is facing severe sand crisis but the officials are mum  and have failed to solve the problem, he said.

District President of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Anil Das said that the  District Administration has shown lack of concern towards sand  workers  and also pointed out how sand was illegally transported to Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Several high profile people are involved in this sand mafia and are reaping benefits worth crores, he alleged.

Earlier, a  protest rally was taken out from Hampankatta to DC office.
