Karkala : Young housewife ends life; hubby, in-laws blamed

Mangalore Today News Network

Karkala, Feb 16, 2018: A young housewife has ended her life by  jumping into a lake near her house at Birlabettu in Santhekatte Kenjur village near Hebri.  It is alleged that physical and mental harassment by  her husband and in-laws had forced her to take the extreme step.

Geetha

The deceased has been identified as Geetha (22), wife of Devadas Naika. Geetha who had been to the lake near her house to wash clothes had jumped into the water.

Geetha who was the daughter of Kondejeddu Krishna Naika of Chara village in Hebri was given in marriage to Devadas Naika in  April 2016. Devadas worked in a bakery owned by his brother in Bengaluru.

Devadas who had initially  taken Geetha along with him to Bengaluru had however brought her back home for her delivery. But, Geetha’s trouble began after she  returned to her in-law’s house  at Birlabettu after her delivery. Her mother in-law Parvathi Naika reportedly had begun to harass her. It is alleged that she used to tie  the one year old child and  force Geetha to do household chores all through the day and even disallowed her from attending any function.

Though Geetha had complained about this  to her husband it has been of no avail as he too had reportedly begun to harass her. Finally Geetha had informed her parents who had asked Devadas to send her back to her parental home.  But when  her husband’s family  refused,  she was dejected and  chose to end her life.

Geetha’s parents  in their complaint have sought strict action against Devadas Naika  and his mother Parvathi Naika.

Brahmavar Police are investigating the case.
