Karkala, Dec 25, 2015: A maxi cab carrying students of Bendalagatti School, Dharwad who were on an excursion rolled into a gorge at Mala SK Border on December 24, Thursday evening, claiming the life of a teacher and injuring 20 students.
The students who had begun their excursion on December 23, Wednesday morning were scheduled to visit Shringeri, Dharmasthala, Gokarna and Udupi. It is said as the vehicle approached Mala, the driver lost control over the vehicle due to a technical snag resulting in the mishap. Even the driver of the maxi cab sustained serious injuries in the mishap.
The deceased teacher is Dudagi (35). Locals and other passersby assisted in shifting the injured students to the hospital. Most of them had sustained minor injuries.
A case has been registered by Karkala Rural Police.
The accident occurs in a fraction of second . It mainly takes place due to negligence and reckless driving.
