Karkala, Feb 21, 2014 : The death of a young pregnant woman, within six months of her marriage at Shirlalu in Ajekar police station limits on February 20, Thursday has been shrouded in mystery. The husband of the deceased has already been arrested.
The deceased is Malini Poojari, wife of Ashok Jain, a bus driver by profession. Malini’s mother Giddi Poojarti has already lodged a complaint at Ajekar police station charging Malini’s husband Ashok and in-laws Yuvaraj Hegde and Indira Jain of physically and mentally harassing and torturing her.
The body of Malini has been sent to Manipal Hospital for a post-mortem. It is learnt, Malini is the second wife of Ashok who had earlier married Ashalatha Jain from Ujire who was staying in Bangalore. But tragically, she had died within 13 days of marriage after she was allegedly poisoned. Ashok was arrested in this case.
After his release, Ashok changed his house and was once even attacked by Ajekar Santhu and his aides at Karkala for befriending the wife of a friend. It is learnt, Ashok owned a bus operating on the Ajekar-Udupi route and even was the driver of the bus and befriended Malini Poojari, a first year law student at MGM College who was travelling by the same bus to her college every day. She was the daughter of Gopal Poojari and Giddi Poojari.
The two became friends and then married after eloping. When Malini’s parents lodged a complaint against Ashok alleging that he had kidnapped their daughter, the duo got married and even appeared before the Ajekar police station. Malini even told the magistrate before whom she was produced that she had married at her own will and would like to stay with Ashok.
It is being said that though the couple had no quarrels there was not much of a love between them after marriage. It is learnt, on February 20, Thursday morning, Ashok’s father Yuvaraj who had been to the milk society to supply milk returned at around 7.30 am to see his son taking Malini in a car. Yuvaraj had seen his daughter sweeping when he had earlier left for the milk society. Yuvaraj told media men that his daughter-in-law had died by the time she was brought to the hospital. Even sources confirmed that the hospital declared her brought dead.
It is learnt, Malini’s body had scratch marks and injuries and there was froth on her mouth. Though Ashok rushed to the station to lodge a complaint he was taken into custody. The suspicion is that the couple had a fight and then she was poisoned.
MG Naikar, Circle Inspector of Police is investigating the case.
