Karkala Cops seek NIA help to probe case of seizing huge quantity of explosives

Karkala, Mar 29, 2014 : The Karkala Police who have seized huge quantity of explosive materials including Ammonium Nitrate from various places of the taluk in raids recently, have now sought the assistance of the National Investigation Agency to  probe the case.

The police feel the need for a NIA probe as there is a possibility of using the explosives for other disruptive acts apart from supplying the same to quarries.

 It is worth mentioning here that the police in raids at six places in the taluk in a span of four days, had seized explosive materials worth Rs 2 crores. Search continued even on the fifth day, i.e March 28, Friday. Police have now spread a dragnet to arrest the prime accused in the case TK Biju Thomas (45) who is absconding.

 

 

 

The accused who hails from Pala Todupuya Tekkumbagam Turthikere in Kottayam District of Kerala has been residing  near the Jodurasthe in Kukkundur village of Karkala.

Even in the past he had faced charges of illegally stocking explosives. Kerala police who arrived  had also subject him to interrogation.

Police say he had carried out his illegal business even after securing bail. 

It is also being said that Biju Thomas who was associated with Congress while in Kerala was an active BJP worker while in Karkala. Police are also investigating if he had any  links with Naxals.
