Mangaluru, Dec 21, 2023: Renowned Kannada author Lakshmisha Tolpadi has been awarded the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award-2023 for his notable work, ’Mahabharatha Anusandhana Bharathayatre,’ in the ’Essays’ category. Hailing from Shanthigodu in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, Tolpadi is recognized as a distinguished scholar, eloquent speaker, agriculturist, environmentalist, and social reformer.
Expressing his surprise and joy at being selected for the award, Tolpadi shared, "The recognition was unexpected, and I am both thrilled and pleased. The distinct writing in this book has garnered much appreciation from readers. It delves into profound themes such as death, the meaning of life, human history, and the intricacies of the human mind."
According to ’Abhinava’ Ravi Kumar, a writer and publisher, Tolpadi possesses extensive knowledge in traditional, spiritual, and modern philosophy. Kumar highlighted Tolpadi’s expertise in both contemporary literature and ancient epics like the ’Ramayana’ and ’Mahabharata.’ "Tolpadi’s unique perspective on the ’Mahabharata’ is noteworthy, offering a fresh and special interpretation of Draupadi’s life, providing a new vision to understand this iconic character," added Kumar.
Tolpadi’s work, ’Betta Mahamadana Balige Baradiddare,’ draws from personal experiences with his guru and stands out for its emphasis on communal harmony. Having authored eight books, all published by Abhinava, Tolpadi actively participates in environmental and agricultural safeguarding movements as an activist.
Recipient of the VK Gokak Award in 2020 and the state Sahitya Akademi Award, Tolpadi’s commendable efforts have now been acknowledged by the Sahitya Akademi, marking a gratifying moment. Kumar emphasized that Tolpadi’s works serve as a model for the younger generation.
