The Kanchi Seer’s visit resulted in a rare meeting between the Vaishnava and Shaiva sects. Devotees from both sects had flocked to Udupi in large numbers to witness the Paryaya Mangalotsava of Putthige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji who successfully completed 2 years of Paryaya on the Madhwa Peetam and will be descending it on Jan 18 so that Shiroor Swamiji can take over the position for the years 2010 – 2012.

In his benedictory speech, Jayendra Saraswathi encouraged the devotees to assume their religious duties everyday. He requested the people to shun their ego and to hone their ability to love everybody equally. He urged devotees to radiate the goodness of God, failing which they would be no more than just animals.

The Swamiji said that Sanathana Dharma was the foundation of all religious work in the world. He urged everybody to respect their inner selves as Lord Krishna has taught in his Bhagavad Gita. He said that Krishna is the chief deity for everybody and that He would guide mankind into the future.

Paryaya Putthige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji spoke on the occasion and said that everybody must mend their ways before trying to correct others; and this habit should become part and parcel of our lives.

Pejavar Mutt Seer Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji said that the Hindu dharma accepts the philosophies of Shankara, Madhwa, Ramanuja, as well as the Siddhantas. The uniqueness of Hinduism is that all Hindus are equal in spirit.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat took the opportunity to say that Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa will felicitate Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji on Jan 17 during the valedictory of the Mangalotsava, just before the Paryaya Mahotsava.

Raghumanya Tirtha, the Swamiji of Bhimanakatte; Mr. Radhakrishna Bhat, the Vedic scholar, and many others were present during the occasion.
