Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2014: In a unique protest against the Supreme Court decision banning Kambala, the traditional sport of South Kanara, over fifty pairs of Kambala buffaloes trekked the roads of Mangalore along with Kambala lovers and organisers on Saturday, November 29,2014.
The protest march of buffaloes and Kambala lovers which commenced from Balmatta at 11 am concluded in front of the DC office. The protestors were shouting slogans like “Kambala Beku.” (We Want Kambala). Kambala committees from DK Udupi and Kasargod participated in the protest which also saw around 200 pairs of buffaloes.
It is worth mentioning here that the Kambala at Shirva was also cancelled in the wake of the ban imposed on the sport. Meanwhile, the interest evinced by the State Government to carry forward the Kambala sport, has inspired the Kambala lovers of the three districts to take out a protest march seeking to revoke the ban on Kambala.
