Udupi, July 15, 2016: Speaking to media on July 14, Thursday, Milagres College Principal Dr Gerald Pinto said Milagres College at Kallianpur will begin its golden jubilee year (2016-17) celebrations at Milagres Tricentenary Hall from July 16 2016, Saturday.

The celebrations would be inaugurated by District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. Udupi Diocese Bishop Most Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo would preside over the celebrations.

He said year-long celebrations would comprise of several in-campus programmes for students. Programmes like interactions with eminent personalities, who have excelled in sports, politics, social service, public service would be organised. Besides cultural, sports and academic competitions, intense training for students who are interested in appearing for the campus interviews, practical skill-based programmes like training in plumbing, electrical, tailoring, fashion designing and beautician courses will also be organised. The outside campus programmes include compulsory week-long village experience programmes for the final year students, medical camps in association with different hospital involving the students is organized, he listed.

He said the major attraction of the ceremony will be the institution of the corpus fund called Milagres College Golden Jubilee Educational Fund for the students, through which the college intends to educate the poor. The college plans to have a corpus fund of more than a crore.

He added that teachers are offered regular refresher programmes. The college aims at conducting some sports, cultural and literary events for the parents, either in the campus or outside in the villages in connection with the celebrations.

The first batch of alumni and the alumni achievers will also be honoured. He said the year-long celebrations will aim at creating awareness among public on various issues in the form of street plays and jathas.
