Kadekar gram panchayat member arrested - reports

Udupi, Sep 15, 2014: As per media reports,  one Dhananjay Kadekar, member of Kadekar gram panchayat belonging to  Congress, has been arrested for allegedly threatening Ashwini, a young girl who was witness to the murder of Ranjitha by her lover Yogesh last year,m 2013. 

It is stated that Dhananjay forcibly entered Ashwini’s house on September 12 and abused with death threats if the girl gave  witness in the case. He also demonstrated force in the house and made threatening gestures to intimidate the residents present.

Sources indicate that  Dhananjay  tried earlier to pressure the police.  The police had arrested the alleged murderer, and currently, Yogesh is in jail. Dhananjay was called for questioning before the arrest of Yogesh.

Ashwini and her family stay in a small house on Yogesh’s land. Her father is ailing and unable to move out of the house. Her mother works as maid and earns for the family , the family is very poor. After Dhananjay’s threat the family was intimidated.

With the help of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti(DSS), they lodged a complaint with the Malpe police, after which he was arrested.  DSS plans to present a petition to the SP on September 15 urging action against Dhananjay and protection to Ashwini and her family. It is also said that the compensation promised to Ranjitha’s kin last year has not been settled and matters are critical.
