Hameed was on his way to his house in Belthangady from Kottigehara, Chikkamagaluru by the KSRTC bus plying from Davanagere to Mangaluru. He gave the conductor Rs 50 for the ticket costing Rs 33. The conductor then returned Rs 20 and demanded that he gave him Rs 3 change. Hameed did not have change and this led to an argument with conductor.

Angered over not being given Rs 3 change, Shrikant forced Hameed to alight somewhere in the ghat region. It is said that the bus was about six kilometers away from Kottigehara. Hameed then tried stopping vehicles for help, but none stopped. Finally he managed to stop one vehicle and reached Kottigehara.

He then filed a complaint at the local police station. Authorities at BC Road depot said that action would be taken once they received the complaint.
