Mangaluru, May 29, 2020: KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed has urged the state government to bring out a White Paper on the expenditure towards Covid-19 control in the state.
Addressing media at the District Congress Office on May 29, Friday, he said the government has closed its eyes and ears to the plight of the migrant workers and others who are in distress due to lockdown. The government has not made any effort despite an appeal to provide a special package of Rs 50,000 crore, he said.
Enlisting the assistance provided by the Congress during lockdown, he said the party has distributed 1.6 crore food packets, over 75 lakh grocery kits, 35 lakh masks and 7 lakh sanitizers among other things. It has even purchased crops worth Rs 100 crores from farmers and has supplied it to people. "The Congress as an opposition has done what the government ought to have done,’ he said.
He also sought an enquiry into the allegation of irregularities in purchase of PPE kits.
District Congress President Harish Kumar, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former minister B Ramanatha Rai, former MLAs J R Lobo, Moidin Bava and others were present.
