KFC to pay customer Rs. 15,242 compensation

Mangaluru, May 26, 2016: In a media statement from Udupi on May 25, Wednesday,  businessman Kishan Hegde Kolkebail revealed, Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered KFC, Kentucky Fried Chicken Pvt. Ltd. outlet in Manipal to pay Rs. 15,242 as compensation, for supplying stale chicken dishes. He has also produced the order copy of the consumer Forum, gave the break-up of the compensation amount — Rs. 10,000 as relief, Rs. 4,000 as court expenses and Rs. 1,242 as medical expenses. The complainant, Mr. Kolkebail, had visited the KFC outlet in Manipal on December 23, 2014 and ordered chicken strips, hot wings.

It was also explained how after having a few bites, he found that that the food was rotten and spoilt. He had an attack of severe nausea. Before leaving the outlet, he asked the restaurant manager about the quality of the food served. Instead of attending to his complaint, the manager gave a “rough and curt reply” and collected the bill of Rs. 382 from him. The complainant had to consult a doctor the next morning and spend Rs. 860 for his medicine. The complainant issued a legal notice to the outlet on January 1, 2015. He filed a complaint at the Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on May 4, 2015 and the latter passed the order on April 22, 2016.
