November 11: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which conducts the common entrance test (CET) for medical, engineering, and dental courses, will soon launch a website with comprehensive information on job opportunities and colleges for the benefit of students, as per the suggestions of Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya, who recently visited the KEA.

According to the minister’s suggestions, the new portal will integrate the placement cell of the department of pre university education and college information. S. P. Kulkarni, the KEA administrative officer, said that the existing KEA website is managed by the National Informatics Centre and that the KEA will soon launch an independent website with information regarding admissions, examinations, results, college facilities, as well as job opportunities.

KEA’s brand new placement cell has already placed 429 engineering students in 31 companies; and around 3,000 BE students have registered with the cell.

Dr. Acharya also said that CET will expand its seat-selection process to many more cities depending on the number of applicants. Currently, the process is held in Mangalore, Bangalore, Gulbarga, Hubli, and Shimoga, with proposals to start counseling centres in Bellary from the next academic year. KEA will also add counseling for D.Ed and B.Ed courses in its portfolio, said Acharya.

Besides, KEA has also announced tentative dates for the next CET. The test will be conducted on April 27 – 28, 2011, and the authority plans to cross check with various examination conducting authorities to ensure that the date does not clash with other entrance tests. The final notification will be issued on Feb 2011.
