Mangalore, July 27: MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash inaugurated the DK Working Journalists’ Union’s vanamahotsava celebrations at Kadri Park on July 27 Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that celebrating vanamahotsava is very meaningful because it makes the city green and clean.

Admitting that the MCC killed a number of trees to widen roads within the city, he lauded the union’s initiative to plant new trees. He said that schools, colleges, and organizations planted around 20,000 saplings last year, adding that 22,000 more saplings will be planted this year. The saplings will also be taken care of, he added.

He also said that the flower saplings will be planted according to particular designs so that they will look beautiful in full bloom. He said that nobody will cut the new trees planted at Cascia, Nandigudde, and other places.
