Mangaluru, Mar 26, 2018: Residents of Pejawar and surrounding areas in north Mangaluru allegedly removed the name board of Jokatte railway station on March 25, Sunday, demanding that the station be named after their village, where it was located.
According to Railway officials, a group of people approached the Jokatte station master demanding that the station be named Pejawar or at least Jokatte-Pejawar. The station is said to have told the group to approach higher officials of the Railways with a proper representation.
Later, the group allegedly tore the vinyl sheet with Jokatte on the name board before leaving the station.
The Railway Protection Force personnel were deployed at the station to prevent further incidents. However, no complaint was registered either with the Government Railway Police or the RPF as the identity of the people was not available.
Southern Railway commissioned Jokatte railway station a year a ago with all required facilities. The station is located in Jokatte area of Thokur village, while Pejawar is an adjacent village.
